Parent Involvement

Parent Involvement

We have been a cooperative school since our founding in 1952, meaning that families who come to our school participate in its day-to-day operations and decision-making, and become part of the Family Co-op Community.   Times change, but we continuously strive to maintain the benefits of cooperative participation while not putting too much pressure on parents.

Cooperative efforts include co-oping in the classroom, committee opportunities, fundraising, clean-up parties, and parent meetings. Each family chooses a committee or position on our Parent Executive Board to work on in order to keep the school running smoothly.

The Parent Executive Board consists of the President, Vice President, Secretary and Fundraising Chairperson. These positions are held by current parents with at least one year’s experience at Family Cooperative Preschool.

Other committees include the following :

Parents are invited to attend bimonthly meetings to discuss the business of the school and participate in discussions on child development issues. Professionals at times attend meetings as guest lecturers. These lectures and related resource materials provide perspective in child rearing.

Families make connections and build community through experiences within committees and at different events as each year progresses .
